The Cliff...

Marilyn bites her lip and looks at the ground as well.

"So uh....this is kinda like goodbye huh..?"

Derek slightly shrugs.

"I guess it is."

Marilyn half frowns.

"Well bye then..."

Derek resists raising his hands to stop Marilyn.

Wait... No...

"I..."

I don't think anything I'd say would matter...

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry this happened."

Marilyn stops and shakes her head.

"I never happened." she said, implying that they had to forget it all.

"Never happened..."

A moment passes.

"If that's how it should be..."

Marilyn nods.

"Yeah.." she says softly.

"I have to pack my things.." she says, starting to walk away again.

Derek wanted to stop her, but he feels he would just delaying the ineveitiable. (sp)

As Marilyn walked off she couldn't stop thinking about home, and how much she loved it and hated it all at once.

She finally reached her cabin and packed her stuff.

Derek had gathered his things and quit too. The show had suddenly been cancelled anyway, and the rest of the people sent home.

Derek returns to his everyday life, eventually getting back into his normal routine.

Marilyn gets back into routine too, sorta.

She had been planning to come home with the prize money from the show, but since she wasn't, she had to get herself to work.

Aside from her apprenticeship at the local shop of her small beat down, ghetto town, she managed to get a job as a waitress in a nice restaurant in the city.

She came home every night tired. But of course, the day isn't complete just yet. She had to take care of her mother. After doing so, she would sit outiside of her porch, still in her waitress uniform; just take a breather. Ever since she quit the show, things got a little harder.

Derek found a job at a store in-town. He feels empty inside, ever since he got back. Nothing feels fun anymore to him.

A sleepless night, hearing nothing but her mother waste away with every cough. Another morning.. Wake up. Take care of mom. Call and make sure someone will be home to watch her.

Get ready for work.

Since tattoo artists were expected to have tattoos, and Marilyn didn't, she had to cover up. An old hoodie of the band HIM, some skinny jeans, and the right jewelry usually did the trick. Everyone in her town tended to have that hard-core/punk look anyway. She was only allowed to do small and simple tattoos. So she tended to have many women clients.

The time rolls around to go back home, check on mom, and completely change her appearance for her job in the city. Heels, a pretty black dress, and her hair up in a ponytail. Then takes the bus to the city to her job.

Stressful day at work. And yet again back home. Not bothering to walk inside. She spent another good while to sit on her porch.

Derek endures another day. His parents come to him, telling him they're taking a little trip out of town. He agrees to go, as long as he could do what he wants. They agree, and after a few days they leave.

I don't even know where we're going.

Another day goes by, same old thing. Her day at the tattoo shop went fairly well, so she was able to go to work in a decent mood.

After taking the bus, she steps down and walks a block to the classy and expensive restaurant she has worked so hard to become a part of. But of course, with fine dining, came snotty diners.

She walks in, and it wasn't very full this evening, at least not yet. She clocks in and begins her day.

After arriving Derek decides to walk around the town. It doesn't seem very special to him. His dad just brought them alone on a business trip, after all. His mom gave him some money to spend. He feels hungry, so he stops at a nice looking restaurant.

"When in Rome..."

He walks in, and a hostess shows him to a table.

The restaurant quickly began filling up, and the staff was short.

Marilyn and the other waitresses were quickly going around table to table, in and out of the kitchen, and all over.

Fortunately, Marilyn's good mood has put her in a good place today. She was on top of all her tables and had great timing. Not to mention some generous tips.

Another waitress on the other hand, was more stressed out and having a harder time.

"You alright?"

"Not really, I've just gotten three more tables to take care of and I'm supposed to be clocking out in ten minutes."

Mariyln knows she shouldn't, but she does. "Don't worry about it. I'll get them for you."

"You're a sweetheart, you really are."

Mariyln took care of the first two tables then headed towards the last one. This one should be a table of one...that'll be easy..

Little did she know that she was headed towards Derek's table. In a rush to get her work done, she didn't bother even looking at the customer.

"Hi. I'm Marilyn, I'll be taking care of you this evening, do you know what you'd like to drink?"

She is looking at her notepad, pen in hand, prepared to write down whatever he said.

Derek looks up from the menu, in utter disbelief.

"Wha... What?"

"Your drink?" She repeated.

She finally looked up from her notepad and froze when she saw him.

"... Hi..."

"Uh....hey...."

Derek didn't know what to say.

"I... I didn't think I'd see you again."

"Yeah...me neither.."

Derek looks at the table in front of him.

"... I'll just leave, if that's what you'd want."

"No stay."

She hesitates.

"I mean...if you want to."

She shook off her shock and remembered how much work she had to do.

"So drink or...? I'm kind of busy."
