Derek started to panic.

"Um... I'll call 911."

Marilyn buried her face in her hands, whimpering things like, "I'm an idiot. I'm so stupid. This is all my fault..."

She looked up at her mother's body and held her hand. Then buried her face in the bed sheet.

"I'm sorry."

Derek walks out and calls 911. After a a few moments of giving the emergency and address, he goes back in.

"I... I'm sorry... I shouldn't have insisted you go out with me..."

"No! This is my fault! I should have never left her alone!"

Derek goes next to Marilyn and wraps his arms around her.

He says nothing.

Marilyn turns and wraps her arms around Derek as well, holding on tightly, crying hard.

She tried speaking when she caught her breath, "...the last thing she told me was, '"If you cared about me, you'd be here with me.'"

"Goddamnit what kind of daughter am I!?"

"Hey, now you've done so much. You tried so hard, I know you have. It's not your fault." Derek said gently.

"Just let it out."

Marilyn cries for a while.

"...What am I supposed to do now..?"

"For now, let's just wait a little bit, okay?"

After a while, the ambulance arrives. The paramedics confirm what Derek feared had happened. He talks to them in another room.

"Can you tell what the cause was?"

"We can guess, but nothing is offical until an aptopsy and toxology report," the other man says. "I can give you the address to the hospital."

He writes it down and hands it to Derek.

"Thank you," Derek says.

The paramedics leave, the body of Marilyn's mother inside. Derek returns to Marilyn, sitting next to her and returns the grasp she quickly places back upon him.

(Hope it doesn't seem like I'm taking control of Marilyn or what happens to her mom even just a little bit. Just trying to add what she'd probably do for dramatic effect and stuff.)

Around this time, the sun began to rise and the sky was a dull blue.

It had been such a long night. Marilyn had her tattooing job, she briefly considered going to herself but decided not to.

After a while Marilyn had stopped crying, and remained in a remorseful silence.

Derek stayed awake the entire time in silence.

"I'm here and I'll stay here," he finally says, breaking the silence.

Seeming to not even care, Marilyn stands up and walks out of the room. She goes outside and sits of the porch.

She didn't even know what to think.

Derek wanted to follow Marilyn, but forced himself to stay. He knew she needed space at a time like this.

After a good 45 minutes, Marilyn came back inside.

She walked back into the room and looked at Derek.

"I can't be here anymore."

"Then lets go," Derek says going toward the door.

Marilyn follows him out.

"Being here isn't good for me."

He turns down the street and just starts walking.

Marilyn walked beside him, staring at the ground.

A few silent minutes pass.

"I think...I should find my own place."

"Maybe...now that I don't have to pay for my mom's stuff...."

"Oh I don't know...are you sure? Maybe until I could find my own place.."

"Marilyn, I want you to. For however long you need. My parents... they'll understand, even if I have to make them understand. Plus you need emotional support right now and I doubt you'll get it here. I'm there for you, though."
